Singapore allocates 200 MW of new data-centre capacity to four operators
Digital Realty, Equinix, Keppel and STT GDC each get a provisional 50 MW under the second data-centre call for application. Here’s the background, and what it means if you’re buying hosting.
What was announced
On 21 Aug 2026, the Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) named four operators under Singapore’s second Data Centre – Call for Application, known as DC-CFA2. Each was provisionally allocated 50 MW of new data-centre capacity, 200 MW in total:
| Operator | Provisional allocation |
|---|---|
| Digital Realty | 50 MW |
| Equinix | 50 MW |
| Keppel Data Centres | 50 MW |
| ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) | 50 MW |
The new facilities will be on Jurong Island, in the low-carbon data-centre park that JTC is developing there. Keppel told the Singapore Exchange that the call was an open competitive process that attracted more than 20 proposals.
The allocations are provisional. The operators still have to build the data centres.
The commitments
The four operators have committed to power more than half of their new capacity from green energy. Digital Realty and Keppel both state this in their own announcements.
Keppel says its share will support a new facility, Keppel Data Centre Singapore 11 on Jurong Island, with an expected investment of more than S$1 billion. Digital Realty says its 50 MW will go into a new site in JTC’s park. We couldn’t find announcements from Equinix or STT GDC with details of their projects.
How we got here
The pause. In 2019, Singapore paused approvals for new data centres.
The pilot. In 2022, EDB and IMDA opened a pilot call for application. In July 2023 they provisionally awarded about 80 MW to four applicants, chosen from more than 20 proposals: Equinix, GDS, Microsoft, and a consortium of AirTrunk and ByteDance.
The roadmap. On 30 May 2024, IMDA published its Green Data Centre Roadmap. It aims to provide at least 300 MW of extra data-centre capacity, and to bring all data centres in Singapore to a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.3 or better at full IT load within about ten years. PUE compares a data centre’s total power use with the power used by its IT equipment, so lower is better.
The second call. EDB and IMDA launched DC-CFA2 on 1 Dec 2025, offering at least 200 MW, with each new data centre required to draw at least half its power from green energy. The 21 Aug 2026 allocations are its result.
What it means if you’re buying hosting
For most small sites, very little, at least directly. A small business site or blog on shared hosting uses a tiny fraction of a server. Whether a host offers a Singapore location depends on its own decisions about where to rent space, not on whether Singapore has spare megawatts this year.
Over time, more capacity in Singapore gives data-centre operators more room to lease to cloud and hosting providers. That could make it easier for providers to add or expand Singapore locations. But the new facilities aren’t built yet, and they are large: Keppel describes its one as an “AI-ready” data centre.
So if you need a Singapore server today, check what each host offers today. Our directory lists which providers say they have Singapore servers, with the source for each.
