Registering a .sg or .com.sg domain: who can, and where

Anyone can apply for a .sg name, but .com.sg is for registered businesses. Here’s how the rules work, and which hosts in our directory are accredited .sg registrars.

Who runs .sg

The Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC) is the registry for .sg domain names. It doesn’t sell names to the public. You register through one of its accredited registrars, and you pay the registrar, not SGNIC.

.sg or .com.sg: who is eligible

SGNIC’s rules set out who can apply for each extension. The two most people choose between:

Extension Who can apply
.sg Anyone. A foreign applicant must appoint a local agent as its administrative contact.
.com.sg Commercial entities registered, or in the process of registering, with ACRA, Enterprise Singapore or a professional body in Singapore. A foreign company can apply if it appoints a local agent as its administrative contact.

The other extensions are narrower:

  • .org.sg: organisations registered, or registering, with the Registry of Societies, plus town councils, community centres, places of worship and embassies. Some other organisations that can’t register under the Societies Act, the Companies Act or a professional body may also apply.
  • .edu.sg: educational institutions registered with MOE, the Ministry of Social and Family Development or under the Private Education Act, or otherwise recognised as SGNIC’s rules describe.
  • .net.sg: IMDA licensees offering connectivity or network services, and network-based hosting providers (email, DNS and web hosting, data centres). The name must reflect the applicant’s main business or company name.
  • .gov.sg: government bodies only, through GovTech rather than a commercial registrar.

There are also Chinese and Tamil equivalents of .sg (.新加坡 and .சிங்கப்பூர்), with the same eligibility as .sg.

So a sole proprietor or company registered with ACRA can choose either .sg or .com.sg. An individual without a registered business can choose .sg.

The identity check: VerifiedID@SG

Every new .sg domain must be verified by its administrative contact through Singpass or Corppass. The administrative contact has 21 calendar days from registration to do this. If they don’t, SGNIC suspends the domain, which means its website and email stop working. A one-off 7-day extension is available.

When you apply, the administrative contact must be either an individual with a valid Singapore NRIC or FIN, or an organisation with a UEN. If you’re a business, you can be your own administrative contact and verify through Corppass.

Registration terms

New registrations are for 1, 2 or 3 years. Renewals are for 1 or 2 years, as long as the new expiry date is no more than 3 years after SGNIC receives the renewal.

To move a domain to a different registrar, ask your current registrar for a “domain transfer password” and give it to the new one. If the current registrar doesn’t approve or reject the transfer, SGNIC approves it after 7 days.

SGNIC doesn’t publish prices. Each registrar sets its own, so compare registration and renewal prices before you choose.

How to tell if a host is an accredited registrar

Check SGNIC’s list of accredited registrars. A host that isn’t on it may still sell .sg names, but it does so through a registrar that is. That means one more company sits between you and the registry, which can matter if you later need to transfer the domain or fix a verification problem.

On 28 Oct 2026, SGNIC listed 17 accredited registrars for .sg, .com.sg, .org.sg, .edu.sg and .net.sg names, plus GovTech for government agencies. They include international domain companies, Singapore hosting providers and two telecoms providers (Pacific Internet and Singnet).

Which hosts in our directory are on the list

Four providers in our directory appear on SGNIC’s list as of 28 Oct 2026:

Provider How SGNIC lists it
Vodien Dreamscape Networks International Pte Ltd, represented by its subsidiary Vodien Internet Solutions Pte Ltd
Exabytes Singapore Exabytes Network (Singapore) Pte Ltd
GoCloudEasy GoCloudEasy Pte Ltd
Vooju Vooju Pte Ltd

None of the other providers in our directory are on the list. That doesn’t mean they can’t sell you a .sg name. If you buy one through them, ask which registrar holds the domain.

Each provider page in our directory shows whether the provider is an accredited .sg registrar, with the date we last checked SGNIC’s list.
